NACCHO is pleased to offer a new funding opportunity in 2014-2015 for Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) units: NACCHO’s MRC Awards. NACCHO will conduct a competitive Challenge Awards. MRC units may collaborate to submit an application on behalf of a group of units. If units choose to partner with another unit, only one unit can submit an application and that unit must agree to be the fiscal manager of the award.

Through a 2-year cooperative agreement, NACCHO works in partnership with the Department of Health and Human Services, Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR), Medical Reserve Corps Program Office to increase awareness and understanding of the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) program; promote, support, and build capacity within the MRC network; enhance cooperation between the MRC Program Office and local/state/federal authorities to support and increase MRC capacities at the local level; and expand the efforts and capabilities of local MRC units to support their community-based public health, preparedness and response initiatives.

NACCHO serves the approximately 2,700 local health departments across the United States and our vision is health, equity, and security for all people in their communities through public health policies and services. NACCHO’s mission is to be a leader, partner, catalyst, and voice for local health departments in order to ensure the conditions that promote health and equity, combat disease, and improve the quality and length of all lives.

NACCHO launched this website after feedback from MRC unit leaders indicated that they wanted a more streamlined process to apply for the NACCHO MRC awards. This site will provide one centralized location for all of the information that MRC units will need to know for the awards process. The site will also add features during the awards process to start building an online community for MRC units around the awards. Look for profiles of award winners, learning resources, and more in the next several months.
